Scholarship Description: The focus of this PhD project is to develop a theoretical understanding of the nature of real-space and momentum-space inhomogeneous states that appear in d- and f-electron materials with strong electronic correlations and competing orders.
This project will include the application of modern computational methods based on density functional theory as well as analytical work with model Hamiltonians. Strong background in mathematics and theoretical physics is required from the candidates. Knowledge of computational methods and programming is an advantage.
The PhD position is for four years. The studies will be performed in close collaboration with Los Alamos National Lab, where the successful candidate is expected to spend a significant part of his/her time.
